New Covenant Publications - A Counter Cult Ministry

In recent speeches given to Unification Church members by Sun Myung Moon, and recorded in Today's World, a magazine published by the Unification Church for Unification Church members, Rev. Moon has proclaimed:

"Am I foolish and insignificant or am I great? I gave all the individuals in the world cause to kneel down in front of me." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, March 1995 p.6)

"I served the famous professors and scholars, and eventually they learned that the Reverend Moon is superior to them.... Even Nobel laureate academics who thought they were at the center of knowledge are as nothing in front of me." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, April 1995 p.6)

"After being released from Danbury prison, I prevailed over the U.S. Congress within seven years. Do you understand? I prevailed over the United Nations General Assembly in seven years." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, March 1995, pp. 6-7)

"Any politician who wants to run for president will come to me in a few years." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, Nov/Dec 1994, p. 19)

"When you bow to True Parents' picture and display the Unification Church flag, Satan will have to go far away from your home." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, January 1995 p.14)

In the early days of the Unification Church in America, in private lectures for Unification Church members entitled: "Master Speaks", Rev. Moon taught his followers: "But if you stand on the Principle, then the Lord of the Universe, whom we call in our movement the True Father or True Parent, will appear to you and guide you." (Rev. Moon, Master Speaks-3, "Prayer and the Spirit World," 1965, p.5) Remember "True Father", "True Parent", "Lord of the Second Advent", etc., are all titles Moon claims for himself. So we see from the above statement that he also claims to be "the Lord of the Universe!"

Rev. Moon also teaches that he is supposed to be the absolute ruler of the world. He has talked many times about wanting to take over America politically.

"The whole world is in my hand, and I will conquer and subjugate the world." (Sun Myung Moon, Master Speaks, 5/17/73)

"Let's say there are 500 sons and daughters like you in each state. Then we could control the government. ... The time will come, without my seeking it, that my words will almost serve as law. If I ask a certain thing, it will be done. If I don't want something, it will not be done." (Sun Myung Moon, Master Speaks 3/24/74)

"So from this time of peak every people or every organization that goes against the Unification Church will gradually come down or drastically come down and die. Many people will die -- those who go against our movement." (Sun Myung Moon, Master Speaks 2/14/74)

He also teaches his followers:

"No matter how difficult your situation may be you have to follow the Lord of the Second Advent completely." (Sun Myung Moon, Today's World, August, 1996, p. 13)

"Therefore, as individuals and families you have to absolutely follow True Parents. Your opinion cannot stand against True Parents." (Sun Myung Moon, Today's World, August, 1996, p. 9)

In the early days of the Unification Church in America, after becoming aware of some of Moon's teachings and statements made to members, there was much media opposition and public outcry against the Unification Church as many people branded it a "cult". This went on for some time in our country, but after awhile the media seemed to forget or tire of the subject, and not much else was heard from the media about the Unification Church. But it didn't just go away. On the contrary, the Unification Church has been extremely active all these years developing into a worldwide movement and has made tremendous strides towards gaining public acceptance and legitimacy. They have done a tremendous job of changing their image. Now many people support and embrace the Unification Church and say it should not be considered a "cult" or aberrational religious movement. Are all the charges of being a cult a thing of the past? Has Rev. Moon changed, as many people now seem to think? What do the thoroughly documented recent quotes listed on the previous pages seem to indicate? As recently as November, 1993, Moon proclaimed:

"The true sovereign is not the American president nor the English king, but the Lord of the Second Advent." (Rev. Moon, "Returning to the Home Country," Unification News, November, 1993, p.3)

So why are many people now supporting them? Why are even famous people now making speeches on their behalf (e.g. former President Bush and Mikail Gorbachev)? Is it because of their enormous financial clout? Political influence? Is it that people are not aware of the deep inner teachings of the Unification Church, that they have not had access to such information as is presented in this article?

Sun Myung Moon claims to be sinless, he claims to have more wisdom than Jesus, and he has often said that he is greater than Jesus. Rev. Moon has taught, "Abraham was the father of faith, Moses was a man of faith, Jesus was the son of man, trying to carry out his mission at the cost of his life. But they are, in a way, failures." (Sun Myung Moon, "Victory or Defeat," from Master Speaks, March 31, 1973, p.1.) He also teaches: "This means that the failures of Adam and of Jesus Christ have been restored by the appearance of True Parents." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, January, 1995, p.8)

In 1984 Rev. Moon's 17 year-old son Heung Jin Nim Moon was killed in a tragic car crash. In a speech given to Unification Church members by Jin Sung Moon (Rev. and Mrs. Moon's son-in-law) and recorded in Today's World, Jin Sung Moon instructed Unification Church members concerning the death of Heung Jin Nim:

"Heung Jin Nim's willing sacrifice was to indemnify Jesus' position. Heavenly Father, True Parents and all of us hoped that it would not come to that, but because of our failures Heung Jin Nim agreed to become the sacrifice, and True Parents offered him." (Jin Sung Moon, Today's World, September/October 1994, pp. 12-13)

"To indemnify" in Unification Church jargon means to make payment for sin or failure. Do you realize what you just read? This is one of the saddest and most bizarre statements I have ever read in researching cult literature. Rev. and Mrs. Moon claim to be the "True Parents" of mankind, and the Unification Church teaches that they offered their son as a sacrifice (he crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler). In addition, the Unification Church claims that the book The Victory of Love, is a compilation of messages given by the spirit of Heung Jin Nim Moon, Rev. Moon's deceased son, speaking through many different Unification Church members as mediums, at many different places and on many different occasions. This is spiritism or sorcery which, of course, is strictly forbidden by God in the Bible (Deut. 18:9-14, Isaiah 8:19-20, Rev. 22:12-16, Lev. 20:6, etc.), yet is taught and practiced by the Unification Church.

From pp. 61-66 of this Unification Church book, a message is recorded which the Unification Church purports to be a message from Jesus. On pp. 65-66 the supposed spirit of Jesus is recorded as saying:

"Bring in the flocks. Bring in the sheep and bring them to the throne of your True Parents. Bring them to the throne of our True Parents, the mighty throne of heaven. And I will place the Crown of Glory on our True Parents' head. I will lead them. I will show them that the Lord of Lords and the Kings of Kings and the King of Glory is our precious Lord Sun Myung Moon and his beloved bride Hak Ja Han. They reign as king and queen of the entire universe. And that I, Jesus of Nazareth, known as the Christ, bow in humility before them. I bow before them. Any who will follow me must do the same. I bow before the name of True Parents. I bow before our precious Lords, our True Parents, Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han." (Purportedly by the spirit of Heung Jin Nim Moon, The Victory of Love, NY, NY: The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity, 1992, pp. 65-66).

This is total abomination and totally against the teaching of the Bible (Phil. 2:8-11, Eph. 1:21, I Tim. 4:1)!!!

Every Sunday, on the first day of every month, and on four holy days that the group observes, at 5:00 a.m., Unification Church members around the world hold "pledge service." Before the pledge is said, three complete bows from a standing position to a fetal kneeling position are performed facing an altar. In the center of the altar is a picture of Moon (and his second wife). Members bow three times with their face touching the floor and then, out loud and in unison, recite a five-point pledge to be faithful to God and to Sun Myung Moon.

In 1977-78 the Supreme Rabbinic Court of America, a duly constituted Halachic Bet Din, (Court of Jewish Law), examined and reviewed the Unification Church and its affiliate organization, "Judaism In Service to the World." After nearly a year of deliberations they published their conclusions which included, among other things, the following charges against leaders of the Unification Church organization "Judaism in Service to the World" (all of whom were Unification Church leaders): "Using lies and deceptive techniques to attempt to infiltrate and destroy Jewish organizations." "Training and conditioning Jews to be self-haters." "Preaching and indoctrinating Jewish youth into believing that they and their parents, like all Jews, have the blood of Satan and murderers in their veins." In addition to these charges by the Supreme Rabbinic Court, there have been many former Unification Church members who have testified to having heard many anti-Semitic statements from Sun Myung Moon and his Unification Church.

Steve Hassan, a former Unification Church leader, is today considered one of America's leading experts in counseling people who have been involved in cults. His book, Combatting Cult Mind Control is highly acclaimed by both mental health professionals and clergy as an authoritative work on the subject. Mr. Hassan is highly respected for his work in educating the public about the use of deception, mind control and other techniques used by cults. On the internet is an article by this former Unification Church member entitled, "The Truth About Sun Myung Moon." On p.10 of this article it says:

"A prominent rabbi wrote an analysis paper of the Divine Principle in the late 1970's for The American Jewish Committee and found dozens of anti-Semitic references throughout the book...Moon believes that in the "ideal world" all languages will be abolished except Korean. He believes that the Korean race is "superior" and that `Orientals' are more spiritual than Caucasians or Blacks. Although Moon's rhetoric is against racism, his words and actions seem very racist. I was present for his "Blacks are more talented in the physical aspect" talk and I remember at that time looking into the eyes of a black woman. We shrugged our shoulders and felt that if Moon was saying it, then it must be true. Here is an excerpt from that speech: `Father thinks about the three races; yellow, black, and white. Orientals can contribute in the spiritual aspect, white people can contribute in the analytic scientific area, while black people can contribute in the physical area. Physical educational development of physical fitness, the area of health. That's one of the reasons Glenda Moody's project (D.C. Strider's Track Club) with black young people is very fantastic. From now on, two thirds of the athletes may come from black people. Even basketball games have a dominant population of black people. The talented area of black people is in this physical aspect. So, the short cut for the black people's achievement in this world is in this physical aspect." (Sun Myung Moon, Master Speaks, 7/29/74) (Steve Hassan, "The Truth About Sun Myung Moon", Website address (Url): (see Groups, Moon Organization)

The Unification Church claims to be Christian and one of its stated goals is the Unification of Christianity. Starting in 1985, it sent more than 7,000 Christian Ministers from America to conferences in Korea, seeking their sympathy, acceptance and support. This goal of seeking to unite Christianity was reiterated to these Christian Ministers over and over again. As a matter of fact, this goal is even declared in the official name of their organization, "The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity." But is the Unification Church really unifying Christianity, or is it leading people away from Christianity, from the Bible, and from the real Jesus Christ? Rev. Moon has instructed Unification Church members:

"Until our mission with the Christian Church is over, we must quote the Bible and use it to explain the Divine Principle. After we receive the inheritance of the Christian Church, we will be free to teach without the Bible. Now, however, our primary mission is to witness to the Christian Church." (Sun Myung Moon, Master Speaks:7, 1965, p.1)

"The time has come when the whole world must be concerned about me. From now on, American Christianity must follow me." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, Nov. 93, p.5)

Rev. Moon has recently taught his followers:

"...I know the established Christian theology....I know the enemy, but the enemy doesn't know me. Thus the enemy has already lost the war..." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, Feb 95, p. 14)

In the Unification Church book, The Victory of Love, concerning how to deal with Christian Ministers, and the real goal of the Unification Church, the supposed spirit of Heung Jin Nim Moon has instructed Unification Church members:

"Of course, in order that the Ministers feel at home, you must declare your love to Brother Jesus, but at the same time do not forget your goal, which is to bring them to the Lord of the Second Advent." (The Victory of Love [New York, N.Y.: The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity, 1992], pp. 65-66.)

This is far different than saying, "We are Christians" and "We are just trying to unite Christianity." Even the very name of their movement, "The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity" is a deception! Rev. Ahn of the Unification Church gives us the Unification Church teaching:

"Today God's word comes only through Father. If other people receive God's word, that word is that Reverend Moon is the Messiah." (Rev. Ahn, Today's World, January 1995 p.39)

"Christians are all blind. When they learn Divine Principle, their eyes will be opened and they will understand." (Rev. Ahn, Today's World, Jan 95, p. 27)

So we see that the real underlying motives of the Unification Church in their contacts with Christians and Christian Churches, whatever they might say publicly, is to try to influence people to follow Moon as the Messiah and to accept and follow his teachings. Rev. Moon has also taught his followers,

"In restoring man from evil sovereignty, we must cheat." ("The Secret Sayings of `Master' Moon," Time magazine, June 14, 1976, p.49.)

I am not advocating persecuting the Unification Church or hating them. Of course not! We should love them and pray for them as we should for all people. But if we truly love them, we must warn them that they are following a deceiver and false Messiah. And we must warn the public, lest others be caught up in his quagmire of deception. Sun Myung Moon and his Unification Church need to repent as lying to and deceiving people is sin, the breaking of the ninth of the Ten Commandments, bad and evil fruit (Prov. 12:5, Matt. 7:15-23). You cannot walk in lies and deception and walk in fellowship with the one true and Holy God of the Bible! How can Rev. Moon claim to be the Second Coming of Christ, sinless, and at the same time teach and encourage people to cheat, which is so contrary to the perfect example, integrity and teaching of Jesus Christ? The Bible says of the real Jesus Christ: "To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps. 'He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth.'" (I Peter 2:21-22 NIV)

Quoting again from the Unification Church book, The Victory of Love, a message is recorded that came from a Unification Church member operating as a medium which the Unification Church claims is a message from Jesus speaking from the spirit world: "But when the Christians can recognize that I have come again, and that I walk on this earth arm in arm with our True Parents, when they can kneel down in humility before the throne of our True Parents..." (Purportedly by the spirit of Heung Jin Nim Moon, The Victory of Love, NY, NY: The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity, 1992, p.65)

Concerning the Women's Federation for World Peace Rev. Moon has instructed Unification Church members: "Can you continue the sisterhood activity on a large scale, involving more Christian women leaders? [Yes] This is the only hope for the survival of the Christian world. When women register, men will follow automatically." (Rev. Moon, Today's World April 95, p.19)

For Rev. Moon "the survival of the Christian world", indeed the survival of the whole world, depends on them following him and his teachings and serving him as the Lord of the Second Advent, as their "True Father", as their "sinless Savior!" For Rev. Moon and the Unification Church all of mankind is dependent on Rev. Moon as the only hope of salvation, which comes by following his teachings, being "blessed" by Moon in marriage, and at that time undergoing his "holy wine" ceremony, thereby (supposedly) having your "blood lineage cleansed"! (Thus the reason for the bizarre mass weddings.) Many have alleged that this "holy wine", which participants drink, contains a small amount of Moon's literal blood (in highly diluted form, of course).

In a speech given August 24, 1992 at the Little Angels' School in Seoul, Korea Rev. Moon said: "In early July, I spoke around Korea at rallies held by the Women's Federation for World Peace. There, I declared that my wife, WFWP President, Hak Ja Han Moon, and I are the True Parents of all humanity. I declared that we are the Savior, the Lord of the Second Advent, the Messiah..." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, September, 1992,p.4) Rallies held by the Women's Federation for World Peace provided the platform for his Messiahship declaration!!!

Again, concerning WFWP, Rev. Moon has instructed Unification Church members: "Those of you who attended this ceremony should return to your own country and raise up 4,000 people to participate in this sisterhood ceremony. Every country leader should focus on how to get 4,000 women to participate in a sisterhood ceremony. ... State leaders, please raise your hands. Please, when you return to your home state find 4,000 women to participate in the sisterhood ceremonies ... If you do not do this soon they will die ... These sisterhood relationships will give you added power. Many senators and congressmen are interested in this activity. ...the Japanese women have been developing a lot of contacts with public figures." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, April, 1995 p.19) The last series of WFWP sisterhood meetings were Japanese women and American women.

In the May/June 1994 issue of Today's World the Unification Church teaches: "... True Parents established WFWP. ... All the women of the world should be connected to the true Adam, true bridegroom, true father ... Otherwise, there is no way to return to God's original ideal world." (Hideo Oyamada, Today's World, May/June 1994, p.43)

And recently concerning the WFWP, Rev. Moon has taught:

"The time will come when nations will serve the president of WFWP as a queen, asking her for TV interviews and speeches." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, June, 1996 p.9)

"I want to energize WFWP and have its flag placed in every house." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, June, 1996, p.11)

"This is an important organization... It is not a problem for WFWP to join the U.N. ...We have to unite the political and religious realms." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, June, 1996 p.9)

"I created the Women's Federation for World Peace in order to restore all that woman originally lost. You American women don't need a man in the position of grandfather, parents, husband, elder or younger brother. You only need the true Adam." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, August, 1996, p.13)

A recent article in Today's World told Unification Church members:

"WFWP has a great role to play in guiding the others, in finding Abel-type women leaders to work together to influence American women and the world for God's will." (Christine Froehlich, Today's World, May, 1996 p.18)

For Unification Church members, "to influence American women and the world for God's will" means to influence them to accept the teachings of Sun Myung Moon, i.e. to accept him as the "True Adam", as their "sinless Savior", to be matched by him for marriage, to participate in his "holy wine" ceremony, etc., etc.! The same article in Today's World said:

"I will never forget sitting in front of Father one day as he asked the sisters, `Do you have any idea how many tears Father shed to win women, to be trusted as the True Adam for all women?' ...we need to find ways of sharing this with American women..." (Christine Froehlich, Today's World, May, 1996 p.18)

We are 100% for racial harmony. But the fact is there are other motives and factors at work behind the Women's Federation for World Peace which the Unification Church has not told you about. Though on the surface the Women's Federation for World Peace seems like a good thing, behind it all, it is just one more tool which Rev. Moon is using to promote himself as being the Messiah, "the Lord of the Universe", the "True Adam" who is supposedly bringing in world peace and to influence people to join the Unification Church and follow him as their "sinless Savior". Sun Myung Moon wants all races and all peoples to unite in setting him up as their world ruler, in bowing down to him, in following him as the sinless Messiah, True Father, etc. and his many abominable teachings! The Unification Church uses these meetings to impress people, to make contacts with people they are trying to convert, and pictures of celebrities, etc. at such events are used by the Unification Church to recruit people and give an air of legitimacy to their group. The Unification Church tells people (like former President Bush) that the Women's Federation for World Peace is completely independent and separate from the Unification Church and does not follow Moon's agenda. But the thoroughly documented quotes listed above prove otherwise!

Unfortunately, to help promote the "Women's Federation for World Peace" is to help promote the lies and deceptions of Rev. and Mrs. Moon and to help influence people to believe in Moon as the Messiah. Let us seek to promote racial unity, but in a way which cannot be used by Moon to further his `kingdom of the cults'. Perhaps you were not aware of the use of deception by the Unification Church, that they taught such things as have been mentioned in this article, or the underlying motives behind the Women's Federation for World Peace.

Now that you know, please, take a stand for righteousness and for truth by renouncing any support for the Unification Church and the false Messiah Sun Myung Moon. Please warn others of the false teachings and deceptions of Moon. Let us seek to promote true love, true justice, true righteousness and true racial harmony by truly practicing the teachings of the true Messiah -- the Lord Jesus Christ!
